NEWPORT was founded by President and CEO, Richard A DeFelice. Originally from Watertown, Massachusetts - Richard grew up in the road construction business, as both his father and grandfather worked for the Watertown Public Works Department. As he got older, his fascination with the industry grew, to the point where he knew it was the career direction he wanted to pursue.
In his 40+ year career, he has performed at all levels, beginning in the field at the age of 17, and eventually parlaying into sales, estimating, operations, finance and partnership positions. With his sights set on sole proprietorship, in early 2000, DeFelice left an existing successful large highway and road construction firm that he was a founder and co-owner of, and formed Newport Construction Corporation.
Through persistency, dedication, and an un-paralleled work ethic, in short order, NEWPORT grew to levels many firms take decades to achieve.
Our emphasis is on quality, consistency, safety, and exceeding client expectations. NEWPORT takes a great care and sense of pride with every job performed. In 2009, to provide synergy to its operations, NEWPORT opened an aggregate recycling and processing operation, located in Westford, Massachusetts – in the Nations’ oldest active granite quarry. In 2017, NEWPORT expanded its aggregate materials operation to include granite mining, and stone manufacturing out of its owned quarry. In 2020, after a 10 year permit and legal process, NEWPORT opened its asphalt manufacturing facility, located in Westford Massachusetts. With its asphalt plant and granite quarry abutting each other, this move solidifies NEWPORTS vertical integration strategy, and along with its established heavy-highway infrastructure and pavement operations, allows for the ability to be an industry leader in the region.
NEWPORT has an extensive background working with a diverse range of clients including Government Agencies, United States Air Force Bases, Municipalities, State Departments, developers and private landowners, providing a demonstrable expertise in managing roadway and site development projects.
Our senior management team has worked together for over thirty years, and in that time, has built a wide array of projects – ranging in various size, scope, and dollar value.

Today, NEWPORT employs a wonderful staff of talented individuals, comprised of our Estimating, Finance, Contract, Operations, and Office Departments, our full time Garage and Maintenance Staff, our Drivers, and our skill full Field Operations and Work Force.
